We are but a snow-covered dunghill. This saying, which is often attributed to Martin Luther, tries to sum up redemption with a picture of surface level transformation. I think that this image is inadequate garbage. You are made for something so much greater and God desires to do great things in your life.
Question #1 What does “Redeemed” mean for you? What is God doing in our lives today?
The image of the snow-covered dunghill implies that God’s love, mercy, and grace only cover us. It paints a picture of the world as corrupt. Despite our best attempts, we will never reach perfection. The best we can hope for is that when God the Father looks at us, he sees the saving work of Jesus. We are covered, but not changed inwardly.
Can’t God do more? I believe he has done more and he is doing more. Our lives get to be a part of this story of redemption. In Revelation 21:5 we hear Jesus say “Behold, I make all things new.” Redemption isn’t just claiming the past work of Jesus in our lives, but inviting Jesus to redeem every part of who we are.
This is the joy of the cross and the resurrection. New life is possible. God can do the unthinkable and wants to bring us freedom and hope in our lives today. I chose the name “Redeemed Online” not because the internet needs redemption, but because we do.
The internet is a thing and is neither intrinsically good or evil. It’s how we use it that matters. It’s a tool that’s all too often used for the pointless or trivial and worse yet used for evil and the exploitation of others. We as believers can use it as a tool of redemption. My vision for starting Redeemed Online was to help others use social media to help spread the good news to the farthest ends of the world.
Will you join me in prayer today? Let’s continue to pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit that we as a community might find ways to take what we believe into the world and use social media in meaningful ways to continue to share the Good News of Jesus.
Question #2: What is up with your logo? I think you made a mistake.
Our ministry is named Redeemed Online, but our logo features the letters “Re.” Often people will ask shouldn’t the logo be “RO?”
Our “Re” logo is a play on the prefix “re-.” Re- means “indicating return to a previous condition, restoration.”
“Re” is an invitation for you and for me to experience redemption today. Redemption doesn’t mean that you need to change to be saved. Redemption means you need to allow God to bring about the change in your life to be saved. Only God can save us and only God can heal our hearts. Redemption is the invitation God offers us to experience what we were created for.
As St. Augustine so beautifully wrote “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.”
“Re” is reminder that God made you for more. You are made for greatness. You are made for his love. Redemption is the invitation to experience this reality throughout all the facets of our life.
Question 3#: What are you doing and why now?
There’s a lot of suffering going on in the world. You don’t need me to tell you this. It’s all over the TV and the internet. It’s happening next door, and maybe it’s happening right in your own home.
Yet in the midst of this we are gearing up and getting ready for our biggest Advent and Lenten #ShareJesus campaign with our annual Kickstarter fundraiser. Our intention with launching our #ShareJesus Kickstarter is not to be insensitive. It’s quite the opposite.
It’s my belief that people encountering the good news of Jesus Christ will inspire them to make a difference in the world and help those in need around them.
We live in a world that is constantly full of pain and suffering. As we evangelize, we are called to both be a relief to some of that pain but to also invite others to do the same as they encounter Jesus.
It’s also my belief that we have a tremendous platform to do good in the world through the many people who are a part of #ShareJesus. I am happy to introduce you to many wonderful speakers who are doing wonderful things all over the country and world. Every one of our speakers are doing awesome things for Jesus – whether it’s Sean Forrest and his mission in Haiti, the Sisters of Life and their work to defend life, my awesome coworkers working with the poor at Dirty Vagabond Ministries, the list goes on and on.
I believe that #ShareJesus is a powerful force for Jesus in the world and that the people like you who make up #ShareJesus are awesome.
Once a year we do a Kickstarter campaign to fund our big Advent and Lenten campaign. Kickstarter projects only happen if you meet your minimum goal. This means if you don’t hit your minimum, no one gets charged and the Kickstarter doesn’t happen. We’ve got 16 days left. We are over $5,000 and on our way to our goal of $27,000. We know we can make this happen, but we need your support. Thank you to everyone who pledged already!
Can we count on your support today? Click here to learn more and make a pledge.
Thanks for being a part of the journey of Redeemed Online. Even if you can’t donate, will you please pray with us for our Advent and Lent program? Your prayers make a world of difference.
Here’s a prayer asking for the intercession of my hero St. John Paul.
O Blessed Trinity, we thank you for having graced the Church with Saint John Paul II and for allowing the tenderness of your fatherly care, the glory of the Cross of Christ and the splendor of the Spirit of love to shine through him. Trusting fully in your infinite mercy and in the maternal intercession of Mary, he has given us a living image of Jesus the Good Shepherd. He has shown us that holiness is the necessary measure of ordinary Christian life and is the way of achieving eternal communion with you. Grant us, by his intercession, and according to your will, the graces we implore, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
