This might come as a shock, but God doesn’t need you. (or me.) It’s true. God didn’t create us because He needed us to exist, as if by our existence we somehow made Him more omnipotent, or omniscient, omnipresent. God created us out of total love — before we were even born, He loved us fully and unconditionally. True love, God’s kind of love, is a love of sacrifice. Its a love of total self gift for the good of the other.
Most of the time, we think our self-worth comes from our abilities, our talents, what we have accomplished, or what we are capable of. When all of that is stripped away, who are you? What are you left with? Not much. But who we are at the bottom of ourselves, even without our accomplishments or abilities, that’s the “us” that God loves unconditionally, and died for! We are sons and daughters of the King of the Universe. That is our true identity, that is what we are worth.
Bob Lesnefsky shares the story of how he learned this lesson in today’s video:

3 Ways to Take This Offline:
- When you pray today, look at how you measure your self-worth. Give all of those things to God, and ask God to help you see yourself as He sees you.
- Show love to someone who is sick today. Go visit someone in the hospital. Write a card. Bake cookies. Send them a message letting them know you’re praying for them.
- Place your burdens in God’s hands. Imagine placing them in front of Him one at a time. As Him to guide your steps through all your struggles.
