REFLECT – Have you ever experienced something difficult in your life, only to discover there was so much more to life than you realized? Maybe it was the death of a loved one or a tragedy that happened in your life. Maybe you felt like you lost everything. However, in the midst of so much darkness, pain, and suffering, a new hope arose. Isaiah the Prophet said, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shone” (Isaiah 9: 1).
Christmas reminds us of what is most important in life. In the midst of a world in darkness, God sent His Son Jesus to restore us to the fullness of life we are all called to. He came to reveal the Father’s love to us, who we are in Him, and the great plans He has for our lives. Ultimately, by dying upon the Cross for us, for our sin, He came to bring us NEW LIFE. Just as God sent His Son Jesus into the world 2000 years ago, He continues to be born in our hearts today. Every year, Christmas is an opportunity to go deeper into the mystery of Christmas, the gift of God’s own Son. We are made for more than we often realize. Christmas helps us to remember the full and abundant life we are all called to as God’s children.
In this video, Sr. Mary Gianna shares her first experience of encountering the true meaning of Christmas after surviving the shootings at her high school and coming to know Jesus personally in her own life.
