Come Holy Spirit

June 1, 2017 by Andy Lesnefsky 5 Comments

Sometimes I wonder what if the apostles had know what was about to happen at Pentecost, would they have run away? When the Holy Spirit comes everything changes. Their lives are never the same.

I am excited to share with you this great video from Dave VanVickle about Pentecost. He talks about what that change is that happens when the Holy Spirit comes.

Both in the few days leading up to Pentecost and those following I want to challenge you to invite the Holy Spirit in. The traditional prayer to the Holy Spirit says:

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

“Fill the hearts of your faithful” are the words I challenge you to pray and truly mean when you say them. Let the Holy Spirit make this pivotal change in your heart that Dave speaks of. Give him permission when you pray those words.

what do you do in life if you have not had this encounter with the holy spirit?
What I mean is I am confirmed but I only know this factually not some thing that sticks in your memory like some thing really big just happened to me I felt the power of the Holy Spirit. For me it was just another day doing some thing I am suppose to do as a Catholic. Some would say I was there but the Spirit did not show up if you know what I trying to say.

I had the same experience. For me, the first time I truly encountered the Holy Spirit was through a charismatic prayer group. I went through a Life in the Spirit seminar. I learned so much about what it meant to live in the Spirit. But it wasn’t the seminar that brought the Holy Spirit to me, it was just the catalyst that allowed me to be vulnerable to the Holy Spirit. I tend to be head first, heart second. I had to open my heart to the Holy Spirit in prayer and expectant faith that He Would come. Ask the Holy Spirit to come to you. Ask for the grace to open your heart to Him. God bless you in your journey.

I’ve just come back from a wee over night trek in the wilderness with my 20 year old daughter. It was the first time I was out there alone with only one other person and we are both female. We decided to build a fire…also for the first time in both of our lives. We gathered “kindling”, but what we thought would work was too big. Literally it took us half an hour to get the fire going and slowly building it up with small kindling at first and then larger and larger until the fire was burning well enough. It was a good feeling of having accomplished something that to the guys is an easy task. But for us ladies, it took patience and perseverance and a trust knowing that if we kept at it, it would be fruitful. So it is with my relationship with God. I love the line in this prayer…”Kindle in them the fire of your love”. From this experience I know first hand what it means to kindle. God doesn’t just zap us with a one time hit of love. Instead, he kindles us patiently and with great perseverance and continuously. I am so thankful that God has chosen me and been with me kindling away. I have always been a faithful follower but with the Holy Spirit filling me constantly, I am able to be that much more faithful to Him and to His work here on earth. What a huge blessing it is to be open to the Holy Spirit and to have Him fill us and kindle us with the fire of His love. He has blessed me and helped me get through some super difficult times of depression and lonliness. With His Spirit I can go forth unafraid to do His work, with conviction, love, peace, hope and joy!! Thank you Andy for sharing this blog today and to all God’s faithful followers who say yes to this project you are doing and share parts of their journey with Christ with all of us. Such a blessing!!!

Great Job Dave we all need to step out of the upper room or step out of the boat like st Peter did but instead of looking down we need to keep our eye on the prize and let him work in our lives. Easy to say but not so easy to do sometimes. Come Holy Spirit Come and fill your church with new courage.
Looking forward to Power and Purpose. God Bless
