The Rosary: the ‘weapon’ for these times

May 9, 2019 by Andy Lesnefsky 1 Comment

I want to invite you to continue to journey deeper into prayer this Easter season. This week I want to turn our attention to the rosary.

Personally, the rosary has been a transformative prayer in my life at many different stages. It’s an opportunity to meditate on the mysteries of Christ and to fall more deeply in love with Jesus through the hands of his mother.

“The Rosary is the ‘weapon’ for these times.” -Saint Padre Pio

“The rosary is the book of the blind, where souls see and there enact the greatest drama of love the world has ever known; it is the book of the simple, which initiates them into mysteries and knowledge more satisfying than the education of other men; it is the book of the aged, whose eyes close upon the shadow of this world, and open on the substance of the next. The power of the rosary is beyond description.” – Archbishop Fulton Sheen

Pray for me and I’ll be praying for you.
Andy

Liturgy of the Hours

May 2, 2019 by Andy Lesnefsky 2 Comments

I love leftovers. Sometimes a meal is even better the second day.

Easter is a time to take our “Lenten leftovers” and keep going. How did your prayer life grow this Lent? What was God saying to you? Savor these ”leftovers.”

Don’t abandon this growth. Build on it. Each week in the Easter season we will look at some aspect of prayer and invite you to try something new (or perhaps refocus on something you’ve been doing for a while).

This week our focus is the Liturgy of the Hours. It’s a rich part of the universal prayer of the church that many of the laity don’t know much about.

Here’s a description of Liturgy of the Hours from https://universalis.com where you can find the prayers for each day:

What is the Liturgy of the Hours?
“Seven times a day I praise you.” – Psalm 118(119):164
The Lord has commanded us to pray without ceasing, and this is what the Hours help us do.
Morning Prayer – at the start of the day’s work and the coming of the light.
Daytime Prayer – at mid-morning, noon and in the afternoon, to unite us with the one for whom and through whom we are working.
Evening Prayer – at the end of the day’s work, to offer up what we have done.
Night Prayer – last thing at night, to commend our souls to God.

Divine Mercy

April 25, 2019 by Andy Lesnefsky 1 Comment

Reflect: “All grace flows from mercy, and the last hour abounds with mercy for us. Let no one doubt concerning the goodness of God; even if a person’s sins were as dark as night, God’s mercy is stronger than our misery. One thing alone is necessary; that the sinner set ajar the door of his heart, be it ever so little, to let in a ray of God’s merciful grace, and then God will do the rest.” (No. 1507 of the Diary of St. Faustina)

Share: How can you extend mercy to those around you? Start with your family, your friends, and anyone God places in your path today.

Pray: Learn to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet here.

Today We Celebrate More Than A Day

April 20, 2019 by Andy Lesnefsky 3 Comments

Reflect: “Christ came to bring joy: joy to children, joy to parents, joy to families and to friends, joy to workers and to scholars, joy to the sick and to the elderly, joy to all humanity. In a true sense, joy is the keynote of the Christian message and the recurring motif of the Gospels…

Are not those words of Jesus still true today? If we are silent about the joy that comes from knowing Jesus, the very stones of our cities will cry out! For we are an Easter people and “Alleluia” is our song. With Saint Paul I exhort you: “Rejoice in the Lord always, I say it again, rejoice” (Phil 4: 4).” –Saint John Paul II, Address in Harlem, NewYork (1979)

Happy Easter. May the joy of the resurrection fill your day, your life, and your family.

I hope your journey to Easter has been a fruitful one this Lent. Remember that Easter is perhaps the most important celebration for us as Catholics. Lent was the journey to this season. Christ is truly risen.

Alleluia! Celebrate and allow his love, peace, and mercy to transform you.

Thank you for being a part of our journey. You’re in my prayers. Please pray for me.

Andy

Father, Into Thy Hands I Commit My Spirit

April 19, 2019 by Andy Lesnefsky 1 Comment

Reflect: “I slept on the cross and a sword pierced my side for you who slept in paradise and brought forth Eve from your side. My side has healed the pain in yours. My sleep will rouse you from your sleep in hell. The sword that pierced me has sheathed the sword that was turned against you.

Rise, let us leave this place. The enemy led you out of the earthly paradise. I will not restore you to that paradise, but I will enthrone you in heaven. I forbade you the tree that was only a symbol of life, but see, I who am life itself am now one with you. I appointed cherubim to guard you as slaves are guarded, but now I make them worship you as God. The throne formed by cherubim awaits you, its bearers swift and eager. The bridal chamber is adorned, the banquet is ready, the eternal dwelling places are prepared, the treasure houses of all good things lie open. The kingdom of heaven has been prepared for you from all eternity.” – An ancient homily for Holy Saturday

Share: Call someone you haven’t talked to in a while to share with them what God has been doing in your life.

Prayer: Jesus, today as we keep vigil and wait to celebrate Easter, help me to be patient. Help me to wait upon you. Jesus, I give you permission to move in a powerful way in my life this Easter. Bring me new life. Let me know the joy of your salvation. I love you. Thank you for the cross and your love for me.
Amen.
