God Wants Your Attention

March 3, 2015 by Andy Lesnefsky 5 Comments

Have you ever tried hard to get someone’s attention? Maybe even made a big scene to impress someone? I know that I’ve made a fool out of myself just to get someone to notice me.

#ShareJesus God wants your hearJesus makes quite a scene in this Sunday’s Gospel. He’s making whips and flipping over tables. He is filled with a righteous anger. He certainly gets people’s attention.

I believe that God wants your attention. In fact all of creation points not only to Him, but to the love that He has for you. Lent is a time to see that God wants to speak to our hearts.

Today, Mark Hart (@LT_TheBibleGeek) talks about why Jesus was so angry and what God really wants from us.

Sharing Online

Quick Facebook Sharing Tip for today:
Try switching up the style of your #ShareJesus posts- maybe share a more detailed post about how you’ve experienced God in your life.

Ideas for sharing on Social Media today:
1. Share a picture from a time you experienced God’s love (a retreat, a church, etc)

2. What does it mean to be a temple of God?

3. How has the Lord gotten your attention?

The YouTube link to share with your tweets today is http://youtu.be/cr_zDXGSAI8

Don’t forget to use the #ShareJesus and don’t forget to share the video from our FB page vs sharing the YouTube link on FB.

Taking it Offline

  • Pray about what it means to be a temple of the Holy Spirit today. Is there anything you need to change to do this?
  • Call or write a note to someone who shared Jesus with you in your life.
  • Pray with a family member today whether in person or on the phone.
  • Pray for continued opportunities to witness to Jesus in conversations with coworkers, classmates, friends, and family members.

Let God get your attention today. See him in the people you will meet. See him in God’s creation. When he has your attention, listen.

Angry Christians?

March 2, 2015 by Andy Lesnefsky Leave a Comment

This Sunday we see in the cleansing of the temple that Jesus got really angry. It’s a moment that calls each of us to look at our emotions and passions. What makes you angry?

love god love peopleDo you find yourself getting angry too quickly? Are you filled with road rage? Or perhaps your anger is deeper. Perhaps you feel hurt and hold a strong anger towards someone you loved deeply. I believe Jesus desires to not just love us this Lent, but to allow that love to transform us and break through even our deepest hurt and anger.

I pray today your anger can be, as Ennie talks about, an opportunity to grow in holiness. Let the little crosses of your life be moments of grace. If you are angry about something in the world, do something about it. Don’t just be angry.

Quick Facebook Sharing Tip for today:
If you’ve been sharing, look back at your past #ShareJesus posts. When were the times of the day you had the engagement of your friends? Is there a certain style of post that seemed to work better for you (i.e. people seemed to comment or like more)? To be successful evangelists online, we need to learn from what worked and didn’t work.

Questions to consider on Social Media today:
1. What makes you angry in the world and what will you do about it?

2. What’s one little cross in your life that’s been an opportunity for you to grow in your relationship with the Lord?

  • If you’ve hurt someone, ask for forgiveness or if you are holding anger in your heart towards someone, work towards forgiving them today.
  • Pick one thing in the world that makes you angry and resolve to do something about it this Lent.
  • Identify an area of your life where you are letting anger get the best of you. Pray that can be an opportunities for you to grow in holiness. Give it to the Lord.
  • Pray for continued opportunities to witness to Jesus in conversations with coworkers, classmates, friends, and family members.
“Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset.” St. Frances de Sales

Do you ever feel lost?

March 1, 2015 by Andy Lesnefsky 2 Comments

It’s the journey to Him that perfects us.

faith journeyThis part of Lent is hard. It’s not that there’s some rigorous mid-Lent ritual that’s difficult to complete. It’s just that we are digging into the middle of Lent. We start off with the great remembrance of Ash Wednesday and end Lent with the most wonderful celebration of Easter.

Now, however, we are in the middle. Maybe you’ve already accidentally eaten a cheeseburger on Friday, already didn’t do the things you wanted to do for Lent, or maybe started off with the intent to #ShareJesus but really haven’t gotten involved in the sharing aspect yet.

Here’s the awesome thing: Lent isn’t about the stuff we do as much as it is about our journey closer to a God who loves you perfectly.

Keep focused or refocus your vision on Him. Recommit and surrender. Life is better when He is in the driver’s seat.

Today, Paul Kim talks about the journey of faith. Jesus calls us close to himself wherever we are. He makes all things new.

Is God Just an Emotional Experience?

February 28, 2015 by Andy Lesnefsky Leave a Comment

Today I wanted to start off by saying thanks. Thanks for being a part of what the Lord is doing through #ShareJesus. It’s incredible that we have over 500,000 views of our #ShareJesus videos to date. The point of this project though isn’t about view counts of the videos; it’s about real people encountering God in new ways. You guys are doing a great job of sharing Jesus. I love hearing your awesome stories and feedback about the #ShareJesus videos, whether it how its how you are using them (like showing them in classrooms,) how they’ve personally inspired you, or how your friends and family are using the videos to encounter Jesus.

swafford blogBut perhaps, you haven’t really jumped into #ShareJesus just yet. It’s not too late to get started. Remember the goal of #ShareJesus isn’t to just watch a video, but to find opportunities to evangelize. Commit to sharing Jesus this Lent.

I have talked to people who have said to me, “I am loving the videos, but I don’t do social media.” That’s really okay. The point of #ShareJesus isn’t to convince people that they need to get a Twitter or Facebook account. You don’t need a social media account to evangelize your family, friends, and neighbors. If you don’t have social media, I want to encourage you to use our taking it offline suggestions. You’ve got plenty of opportunities to #ShareJesus that don’t involve social media.

In today’s #ShareJesus, Sarah Swafford talks about discovering a love that’s greater and richer than anything you’ve ever felt. What do you when the God high is gone?

Is Jesus Really God?

February 25, 2015 by Andy Lesnefsky 1 Comment

Who is Jesus to you?

The question of “who is Jesus” is a question we all must answer.  It’s not just something we answer with words, but by the way we live our lives. Why would we #ShareJesus if he was just a nice guy or a great philosopher? We share Jesus because he is the Son of God.

#ShareJesus beloved sonIn the Gospel on Sunday, we hear the voice of the Father affirm Jesus, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” If he truly is God what does that really mean? Why does He have a mother, why does He weep, and why does He die?

You are in for a treat today. Chris Padgett brings his love of Jesus and his unique style to the question, “Is Jesus really the Son of God?”

Who in your life needs to know Jesus this Lent? How are you purposefully sharing Him with those people? #ShareJesus is not just about inspiring your Lent, but about sharing Jesus with other people. Be deliberate. Be bold. #ShareJesus!

  • Why do you need God?
