I’ve been reading a book by the author Brené Brown who asserts that most people are trying their best. It’s a beautiful book, and it’s a fascinating perspective to consider.
This Sunday’s Gospel reading made me think about this statement. The rich young man in the story is obviously trying his best. He tells Jesus he has followed every commandment from his youth.
It’s obvious Jesus wants something other than his best.
Jesus can see that the man’s heart is with his money and his possessions. Jesus doesn’t need his money or his possessions. More than anything, Jesus is asking this man to give Him his heart.
The same goes for us. You can’t give more than your best to Jesus, but you can surrender your life and your heart to Him today.
