The Meaning of Life

March 11, 2015 by Andy Lesnefsky 1 Comment

Flowers, new life, love…what are the things that make you smile about spring? I love that feeling of the first really warm day when you know summer is just around the corner. Spring is an exciting time of year in many ways.

Sean Forrest #ShareJesus blogLent literally means “spring.” We have had crazy winters all of over the US, so it may not feel like spring where you live, but we are called each Lent to a new springtime in our faith. God wants to bring the newness of life into your heart this Lent. Have you taken the risk to let Him?

One of the questions, Sean Forrest (@Realseanforrest) asks is what are you waiting for? Have you said yes to the Lord in a new way this Lent? God is always greater than our imaginations and always calls us closer to Himself in new ways.

The good news is too good to keep to yourself. Share it today!

Sharing Online

#ShareJesus daily goal: two posts: one with the video and one without.  Don’t forget to use the #ShareJesus with each post.

Remember: Sharing Jesus isn’t a compartmentalized thing we do. We should share Jesus with or without #ShareJesus in our posts. What I mean by that is all we do on social media should glorify God. Don’t use it for gossip or pride or tearing people down. Let’s seek to bring Jesus into every aspect of our lives and actions.

On Social Media today consider these questions:

  • What does it mean to say yes to God? How have you done that?
  • In your own words what is the meaning of life?

Are you following us on Facebook? Twitter? Instagram? Pinterest?

Don’t forget on Facebook, please share the video from our Facebook page. This way you’ll get a lot more views than if you share a Youtube link on Facebook.

From Twitter please use the Youtube link https://youtu.be/M5_5gjvtZlQ with your posts and don’t forget to RT our tweets.

  • Use the question, “What’s the meaning of life?” as a discussion starter today. Listen first before sharing.
  • Challenge a fellow Christian to make a commitment along with you to grow more in your faith. Ask them to hold you accountable to this decision.
  • Continue to pray for those who you want to share the Lord by name with over Lent.

“Jesus is the one who brings God to us and us to God. ‘Put on Christ!’ in your life, and you will find a friend in whom you can always trust; ‘put on Christ’ and you will see the wings of hope spreading and letting you journey with joy towards the future; ‘put on Christ’ and your life will be full of his love; it will be a fruitful life.”  –Pope Francis

Say yes to the Lord today. Life is too short not to. #ShareJesus today!

Hell and Who Goes There

March 10, 2015 by Andy Lesnefsky 2 Comments

Hell isn’t a popular topic. In fact, you probably didn’t wake up and think “I would really like to think about Hell today.” If you did you might want to get some extra spiritual help today.

‪#‎ShareJesus‬ Video 22: Michael Gormley considers the subject of Hell which he says exists because freedom is real.I thought it was important to not skip over the topic of Hell this Lent. We know we need and have a savior, but what are we really saved from? Hell exists because of our freedom. We have the ability to choose to accept God’s free gift or not.

Ultimately, a discussion about Heaven and Hell should lead us to consider our relationship with God. If Heaven is ultimately union with God, why would we want to go there if we don’t love God? Seek to grow closer to God and pray for a greater desire for prayer in your life.

Michael Gormley, or Gomer as his friends call him, considers the not so popular topic of Hell today. He also challenges each of us to go into the hells of this world and bring the announcement that He has risen.

Don’t just listen to today’s message. Share it on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or email it to a friend who needs to hear it.

#ShareJesus daily goal: two posts: one with the video and one without.

Don’t forget to use the #ShareJesus with each post.

Remember

  1. Whenever we share the gospel the Holy Spirit is working in us. Ask Him for help.
  2. Maybe you are getting tired of trying to #ShareJesus on social media or feel like you aren’t being successful. Try something different. Invite a friend to join. Ask a question to your friends/followers.

On Social Media today consider these questions:

  • Where are the hells of this world you are called to announce the good news to?
  • What does it mean to you that Jesus is your savior? What does he save you from?
  • Reflect on God’s mercy

  • Share with someone your idea of what Heaven is like.
  • Make an effort to take the good news to some “hell” in the world around you.
  • Support someone who is making an effort to be a missionary in your local community.
  • Continue to pray for those who you want to share the Lord by name with over Lent.

Take Gomer’s challenge to heart. Bring the Good News to the “hells” of your world. Pope Francis challenges us in a similar way, “I prefer a church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets, rather than a church which is unhealthy from being confined and from clinging to its own security.” Bring the gospel to the streets.

Why Would God Give His Only Son?

March 9, 2015 by Andy Lesnefsky Leave a Comment

As a parent, there is perhaps nothing more difficult than watching your kids suffer. God the Father gave his only son, knowing full well the ending Jesus would face. His love is amazing. He loves so unselfishly.

kathleen mccarthy #ShareJesus blogHow do you receive this love? It remains an abstract idea or just a nice concept until we encounter this love. He gives it each and every day for us.

Here’s a great thought for your prayer today: “It is always the time of hope, confidence and love. Everything passes; love remains. We will not be disappointed.”– Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini

Kathleen McCarthy talks today about why God would give his only son and challenges you to consider what you are willing to give of yourself to share the gospel.

Consider Kathleen’s question “What are you willing to give of yourself to share the gospel?”

1. What does the unselfish love of God the Father teach you?

2. Why did Jesus need to come to earth?

3. Why are you participating in #ShareJesus?

How Can God Love Me?

March 8, 2015 by Andy Lesnefsky Leave a Comment

God loves me. It seems like the simplest of messages, in fact it’s the basic gospel message. Why is it so hard to believe sometimes? The reality is that we are sinners. The reality is we mess up. Sometimes it seems like darkness surrounds us.

#ShareJesus everything comes from loveThe greater reality is God loves us perfectly for who we are. He loves us no less when we sin. He loves us no more when we do great things. The reality of God’s amazing love for us in highlighted is this Sunday’s Gospel:

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

When we know the reality and depth of God’s love for us, this changes everything. It changes the way we encounter God, the way we live our lives, and the way we are not afraid to share the good news of the gospel. When someone is falling in love you can see it. My prayer is that you will continue to fall in love with Him and that this love will be visible to the people you encounter.

Quick Social Media Tip for today:

If you haven’t yet this Lent, try a picture posting on Twitter or FB of something personal that represents your experience of God, i.e. a picture from a retreat, an image of Jesus that’s been important to you, etc.

For sharing on Social Media today:

1. What’s one way you’ve experienced God’s love in your life?

2. How have you seen God in a trial that you’ve overcome?

3. What’s something you are praying for this week.

  • Plan an extra visit to church this week but don’t go without bringing someone with you.
  • Write and mail a note to someone you know needs some encouragement. Share a quick note about God’s love for them.
  • Say a rosary today- ask a couple of people for prayer requests and let them know you will be saying a rosary for them.
  • Pray for continued opportunities to witness to Jesus in conversations with coworkers, classmates, friends, and family members.

Love changes everything, but we must encounter that love first. That love is embodied in Jesus Christ. Meet Him in prayer today. #ShareJesus today!

How Can You Experience a God You Can’t See?

March 7, 2015 by Andy Lesnefsky 1 Comment

Sunday comes and a new week begins. I think it’s important to stop and be thankful for all that God has done as we begin a new week. It’s way too easy to just jump right into the next week without stopping to look back.

fr joe freedy #ShareJesus blogA #ShareJesus project update: Personally, I just want to say thanks to everyone who has been a part of #ShareJesus so far. I’ve heard from a lot of people about the difference it has made in their Lent and even in their lives in general. It’s been amazing to see a glimpse of what we can do as a Church with social media. To date we’ve had over 800,000 views of the #ShareJesus videos between Facebook and Youtube. The RedeemedOnline Facebook page has shown the power of social media combined with the gospel message.

Even though some of the other Catholic ministries doing Lenten campaigns may have thousands more likes because they’ve been around longer (one even has 100,000 more), the engagement and reach of our Facebook page has been greater than any other group doing a Lenten campaign. I want to repeat it’s not about the numbers though, it’s about people encountering and sharing Jesus in new ways. So keep sharing Jesus! I’ll be sharing a little bit more about what’s in the pipeline with redeemedonline.com in the days and weeks ahead.

St. Augustine once said “Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.” In today’s Gospel reading we hear that “many came to believe” so the question that is being considered today in the #ShareJesus video is “what does it mean to believe.” Fr. Joe Freedy shares about faith and gives some practical ideas for you this Lent to grow in faith.

Quick Social Media Tip for today:

Be generous with people on social media. What I mean by that is people interact with people who interact with them. Interact with your friends’ posts, pictures, etc and they will be apt to interact with the content you are sharing including #ShareJesus content.

For sharing on Social Media today:

1. How is faith a struggle for you sometimes? How do you overcome that?

2. Share something or someone you are thankful for.

3. What’s a tool you have used to grow in your faith?

The YouTube link to share with your tweets today is http://youtu.be/EfVbaJ87RM4

Don’t forget to use the #ShareJesus.

Why should you share the video from our FB page instead of youtube link? Facebook’s Autoplay feature means videos are more eye-catching than a regular post. Plus, Facebook videos get more organic reach in the newsfeed.

Taking it Offline

  • Say thank you to someone in your life that you are thankful for this week.
  • Take some time to grow in faith by doing some spiritual reading.
  • Invite a friend or family member with you to church today.
  • Pray for continued opportunities to witness to Jesus in conversations with coworkers, classmates, friends, and family members.

Ask God for great faith. He wants to give it to you. Experience the Lord in the Eucharist today; it’s the source and summit of our Christian faith.
