I turned around and realized something wasn’t quite right. I had never seen the elderly woman who was in the in the middle seat of the van before. It was at this moment I realized I had gotten into the wrong van. It was time to say hello, goodbye, and make a quick escape.
Happy Easter! As we celebrate this season, I have a new video for our new weekly Easter series and I wanted to share with you a story about arriving at a destination.
We had driven for hours to get to the beach. We had to check in at one building and then drive to the house we were renting. After checking in, I was tired and not thinking, and got into the wrong van. It was funny, embarrassing, and a great lesson to reflect upon this Easter.
Lent is the journey. Easter is the destination.
When you arrive somewhere, it’s good to be prepared. Sometimes, however, you can never be quite prepared for what’s in store. My hope is that you have had one of your best Lenten journeys ever, but the good news is we are here at the destination.
In our family, I am so grateful for my wife and her amazing packing skills. If packing was an official science, she would have a doctorate. When we are getting ready to go somewhere she has lists of what needs to be packed for each of our four kids. It takes a lot of effort, but it makes the destination enjoyable to have all the right things with you when you arrive. Easter feels great when Lent was a great time of preparation.
Jesus is truly risen. Easter is a season.
Sometimes we don’t feel adequately prepared when we arrive at a destination. In fact, after Lent, you may feel tired. You may feel distant from God. You may feel like you are in a season of suffering. However you are, Jesus invites us to new life. This is the invitation of Easter. Enjoy the fact you are at the destination and allow God to love you.
Even if you had an amazing Lent, we must remember that Easter is a beautiful gift. You don’t, can’t, and won’t ever deserve it. What you can do is embrace the gift. Jesus desires to give you new life this Easter season. Will you allow yourself to receive it?
This Easter we will have 6 weekly videos where we will look at Easter as an opportunity to “be on a retreat,” and our hope is that this will encourage you to enter in a deeper way to the season.
Easter is here, and I pray you’ll enjoy the destination.
