C.S. Lewis once wrote, “God sometimes seems to speak to us most intimately when he catches us, as it were, off our guard.” If we look at the scripture, we can see that this is true. God speaks through burning bushes and signs and wonders. But sometimes when we WANT Him to speak in those ways, He speaks through silence and the longing of our hearts. Some of the most profound messages I’ve received from God came when I was “off my guard.” Is that also true for you?

4 Ways to Take This Offline:
- Ask someone close to you about an unexpected encounter they had with God.
- Write down your most powerful and memorable encounters with God, especially those that surprised you. Go back to them often, for they will remind you to expect God to show up when you LEAST expect Him.
- Find a story in the bible where God shows Himself in an unexpected way. Ask yourself how you would have responded in such a situation.
- Pray a decade of the rosary asking for the grace to see God more in the many ways He is trying to get your attention.
